About Sofia
Sofia, the capital and
largest city of Bulgaria, was founded over 2,500 years ago. Architecture styles from different periods can be found in the city centre: Neo-Baroque, Neo-Renaissance, Neoclassicism and Neo-Baroque. We passed by several museums, art galleries, theatres, parliament and government buildings, but unfortunately did not have enough time to visit any of them. | Click Play for Slideshow |

Another popular tourist
attraction and symbol of Sofia is the St Alexander Nevski Cathedral with a gold-plated central dome and massive gold cross on top built in memory of the 200,000 Russian, Belorussian, Ukrainian and Bulgarian soldiers who died during the Russo-Turkish war 1877-1878. |

museums, art galleries, theatres, parliament and government buildings. We unfortunately did not have enough time to visit any of them. The sculpture park exhibits artwork created during the communist regime 1945 – 1989 and was commissioned by the regime for propaganda purposes: a fascinating collection of full-length statues, busts, heads and portraits of Lenin, with other works created to glorify the life of the working classes. A park filled with masterful works created by some of the finest Bulgarian artists. | Click for Slideshow |
